In this episode, co-host, Tricia Sikes and I spoke with Yvonne Armour and Lynn Lazzarini. These two women have devoted time, energy, and expertise to working within the San Felipe community to create programs to assist children, the elderly, and horses with special needs.
Yvonne was born and raised in Colorado and moved to Texas where she spent 27 years working with children birth to 6. She also assisted with an equine program working with students with disabilities and PTSD. She moved to San Felipe in 2017 and, among her many projects, currently assists with the San Felipe CAM* school.
Lynn is a California native who has spent her whole life involved in training horses and competing in equestrian events. She holds a Masters in Education, and has taught elementary school and children with special needs. She first came to San Felipe in 2006. Her equine center first opened in 2012. Her "barn" offers a variety of equine related services including: safe care and rescue for horses in the area, trail rides, private lessons, boarding, and assistance programs for children and elderly folks with special needs.
*Note: CAM schools. CAM stands for Centro de Atencion Multiple. A CAM school is a public special facility dedicated to providing education and related services for children with mental, physical and/or behavioral disabilities. CAM provides a holistic approach to learning by helping children and their parents set realistic goals for their learning capabilities, providing physical therapy, a social worker and psychologist to work with the children and their parents.
