Description

This week we begin discussions about the differences between chronological age vs. biological age, what drives the aging process, and what we can do to impact, not just our longevity, but the quality of our health span. Emerging science is revealing more and more about the body and how and why we age. We talk about some of the main drivers of aging, such as increased inflammation, hormonal changes, increased insulin production, increased blood glucose, changes in our microbiome, decreased mitochondrial function (the powerhouse of cells), and decline in sirtuin activity (protective pathways which help keep mitochondria healthy). We dive into contributing factors of abnormal aging and disease, including diet, eating too much, obesity, inactivity, stress, poor sleep quality, and lack of community and meaningful relationships. We share fascinating information about the Blue Zones, where a high percentage of the population live to 90/100+ years (healthy, happy, and thriving) with low rates of age-related diseases and disabilities.
