Strategic Planning: The Vision and Mission Statements - This is our third episode in a series of podcast episodes on strategic planning. Essentially, the Mission Statement is a concise statement that serves to help define the big picture. It provides the fundamental and underlying purpose of the firm and formulates the framework for the firm’s vision of its best future.
There are two cardinal rules in developing the Vision Statement: First you must not allow your Vision Statement to drift into fantasy. You must employ forward thinking with an aggressive reality, but again, it must be grounded in reality. Second, the meeting facilitator must pound into everyone that the vision is not confined to existing resources of time, talent, and treasure.
