Description

When we say that 95% or more of our thoughts, emotions, and actions are a product of our unconscious patterns of habit, we’re including even the most basic physical aspect of how our bodies process the food we eat.

Yes, even this becomes habitual!

In today’s episode, I share a personal story about weight gain and loss and how it’s all impacted by the habits of my body and mind:

Of course, this also applies, personally for me, to anger.

But just as my proclivity towards weight gain does not make me completely avoid food - because what kind of life would that be? - my tendency towards anger doesn’t make me lock myself away and avoid life.

Instead, the key to managing all of this - from weight gain to anger, to the impacts of everything I do or consume - lies in awareness.

If I’m aware of how my body processes food, I can make decisions to avoid the weight gain.

If I’m aware of my anger habit, I can avoid the triggers or at least be prepared for them.

But if I don’t consider my weight gain until after I overeat, there’s nothing I can do about it.

And if I don’t see my anger until it’s a blind rage, there is also nothing I can do about it.

With all of this and virtually everything else in our bodies and our lives, the key is to see it when it’s small enough that we can easily make the little adjustments that result in regulation.
