One of the most overlooked side-effects of leaving an abusive relationship is grief. It may be hard to believe and even harder for someone to understand, but there can be a lot of grief associated with ending an abusive relationship. Even if it was unhealthy, it was still a relationship. At some point it was good, there was love and joy, even if it was brief.
