Today on the podcast, April and Danielle are joined by the NYU Student Health Center’s Sexpert, Alyssa LaFosse, to talk about HIV, or Human Immunodeficiency Virus. The episode dives into the history of HIV, how it is spread, what individuals can do to prevent contracting the virus, the importance of getting tested for all STIs, and how to continue having a healthy and safe sex life even if someone does receive a positive HIV test result.
Not only does the discussion include details about PrEP, or Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, which is taken before someone is potentially exposed to the virus, but they also explore PEP, or Post-Exposure Prophylaxis, which is taken after a known or possible exposure to HIV. It wouldn’t be a quickie if April and Danielle didn’t also engage in a discussion about oppressive ideas around HIV, stigma, and the importance of unpacking these harmful beliefs.
