Today on the podcast, April and Danielle are joined by Alexander Pines, the Assistant Director for Global Diversity Education and Training in the Office of Global Inclusion at NYU. He facilitates workshops on power, privilege, and identity for faculty, students, and staff across campus. Alexander holds an MFA from the University of Iowa and a BA from Columbia University. He has essays published in BOMB, The Rumpus, The Black Warrior Review and elsewhere.
In part 2 of their conversation, April and Danielle get personal with Alexander and discuss his midwestern roots and how his upbringing impacted his relationships. Alexander shares some of the challenges he faced with his partner in a long distance relationship and how they managed through the pandemic. Listeners will also hear how Alexander has advocated for himself in healthcare settings and the importance of having time to himself, which for Alexander means dipping into his nail art while watching the latest episode of Drag Race.
