Today on the podcast, April and Danielle are joined by Dr. Zhana Vrangalova, an adjunct professor of psychology at the College of Arts and Science at NYU. Dr. Zhana teaches human sexuality classes and her research focuses on how different aspects of sexuality (especially those that fall outside the societal box of acceptability) are linked to health and wellbeing, and how our relationship orientation predicts the types of relationships we’re most likely to thrive in. We had such a fun and fascinating conversation that we split it into two parts so you could listen to it all.
In part one of Dr. Zhana’s interview, she shares her experience growing up in Macedonia and discovering sex that was not what she was taught was typical. She describes her desire for exploration being greater than her fear of social consequences. Dr. Zhana shares her work on how to navigate the need for exploration and stability within a relationship and how she uses her platform on Instagram to help followers reframe how they think about singledom, monogamy, open monogamy, polyamory, and celibacy. Tune into part two where the conversation continues as Dr. Zhana’s shares her personal and professional journey with sex and relationships.
