Today on Good Sex @ NYU, April and Danielle are joined by Rafael (aka Raf) Rodriguez, NYU’s Associate Vice President and Dean of Students. As the Dean of Students, he is the principal student advocate and provides guidance and direction to all students at NYU. Dean Rodriguez works with his team and partners across the university to strengthen community and belonging at NYU.
In this episode, Dean Rodriguez shares how he had to unpack some cultural messaging around masculinity before being able to successfully set boundaries and improve his communication skills. The group discusses how people often experience the world through the lenses of our oppressed identities but tend to engage and interact with it using the privilege we have. They also unpack how to reconcile this identity clash during arguments with a partner. Additionally, April and Danielle talk with Raf about how masculinity impacted his sexual journey and how vulnerability can lead to more pleasure.
