As we start our study on the book of Amose we will see that Amos prophesied somewhere between 760 B.C. and 750 B.C. during the rule of Uzziah king of Judah, and of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel. So Israel was already divided at this time. Amos lived in Judah but was called as a prophet to go to the ten tribes of Israel. There was nothing special about this man regarding education or class, he was a country boy that was called to the big city. He was from the city of Tekoa which was about ten miles from Jerusalem. As we know, God always looks at the heart and chooses the ones he chooses according to what He sees and according to His will.
