Dr Youngblood's journey began in Galena Park, Texas, where he became involved in politics at a young age and served as a page in the Texas State Legislature at the age of 14. He went on to attend Princeton University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. While at Princeton, he participated in a sit-in calling for divestment from South Africa under apartheid.
After graduation, Dr Youngblood attended medical school at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School, where he earned his MD in 1982. He worked as an emergency medicine physician at the Medical Center of Plano from 1985 to 1997.
Dr Youngblood's political career includes serving on the board of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) as a trustee and chairman of the Fund's Real Estate Committee. He also served on the board of directors of the United States Enrichment Corporation (USEC) and was a member of the Task Force on National Health Care Reform headed by First Lady Hillary Clinton.
In 1997, Dr Youngblood, along with Michael Devlin and Robert Crants, founded Pharos Capital Group, LLC, a private equity firm that has become one of the top firms of its kind in the country. Dr Youngblood's expertise and business acumen have led him to serve on the boards of numerous companies, including Scientific Games, AMR Investments, Starwood, Burger King, and the Gap, Inc.
