Quest's Bio:
Quest Sandel is the Chief Executive Officer, Ascend New York Camp Director, and Curriculum Director of Congressional Debate at Ascend Speech and Debate. Quest has been running in-person debate camps of various sizes since 2016 and was the camp director of Ascend’s virtual debate camps in 2020 and 2021. Outside of Ascend, he has served in three key areas of speech and debate community. He has served as a tournament director at dozens of tournaments ranging from local tournaments to major national invitationals and championship tournaments. In addition to directing tournaments, he serves with the best Congress coaches in the country on the Tournament of Champions Advisory Committee for Congressional Debate.
As a coach, he was the Director of Speech & Debate at John F. Kennedy High School in Sacramento, California from 2016 to 2021 and now serves as an advisor. He is now the Head Coach of Congressional Debate at James Logan High School in Union City, California. Since he started coaching, he has coached multiple national finalists in Congressional Debate, including the 2019 NSDA Senate National Champion, the Champion of the 2020 Tournament of Champions, the 2021 CHSSA State Champion, the 2020 & 2021 NSDA Senate Runners-up, the 2021 Senate Leadership Bowl winner, the top presiding officer of the 2020 NSDA House, as well as four other NSDA top six placements. His students across events have seen broad success at tournaments across the country, consistently making outrounds and often winning at major tournaments such as the Tournament of Champions, NSDA Nationals, NCFL Nationals, MLK, Harvard, Emory, Glenbrooks, Yale, Stanford, Blake, Arizona State, Berkeley, and CHSSA State. He believes that the voice of a student can change the world. Whether he is teaching competitive speech and debate, public speaking, or critical thinking, he pushes students to find and use their voices. He is committed to the idea that Ascend will ensure students are ready to use their voice whether it be in a debate round, the classroom, a college interview, or any other facet of their life. This will be done with a curriculum focused on the vital aspects of public presentation, education on complex issues, and the foundational aspects of argumentation. In his free time, Quest enjoys hanging out with his dog Alpine, hiking, sampling lemonade at restaurants across the country, reading a new book, watching Marvel, or traveling to a new place. Join Ascend right now to work with Quest and many other fantastic coaches.
