What happens when Jesus preaches His very first recorded sermon—in His own hometown?
In Luke chapter 4, Jesus returns to Nazareth and reads from Isaiah 61, boldly declaring that the Scripture has been fulfilled in their hearing. At first, the crowd is amazed. But when Jesus reveals what the Messiah’s mission truly looks like—and who God’s grace is really for—the mood shifts fast. There is a real danger in persistently resisting the grace of God. Luke tells us that after being rejected, “Jesus went away.” It’s a sobering reminder to respond while the invitation is still open.
