Ways we can have more meaningful, deeper conversations:
- Active listening: focus on their words, maintain eye contact, and respond emphatically
- Ask thought provoking questions
- Share personal stories and vulnerabilities
- Explore mutual interests and passions
- Create a judgement free zone
- Practice mindfulness in communication: be fully present, be respectful and put down the phone
- Embrace silence as an opportunity: this allows both parties to collect their thoughts
- Encourage diverse perspectives: understand everyone has different perspectives and viewpoints. Great conversations can allow someone a chance to share why they feel that way which could provide enlightenment.
- Practice patience: meaningful conversations don’t happen overnight. Be patient and persistent.
