The Doctrine of Divorce (vv.1-5)
But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery…. And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery.” (Matt. 5:32; 19:9).
The Meaning of Marriage (vv.6-9)
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him. (Gen. 2:18).
31 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. 33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. (Eph. 5:31-33).
