 Love God, Love People - the Greatest Commandment

                                         Matt. 22:36-40

First Priority (vv. 36-38)

Jo. 5:42   But I know that you do not have the love of God within you. ;8:42  Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me.

Psa. 34:8 8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! 119:103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Psa. 42:1-2  As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?[; 63:1 O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
    my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

Psa. 16:11 You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy;  at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Second Priority (vv. 39-40)

Jo. 14:23  Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. ; 15:10  If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love.

1 Jo. 4:21 And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother; (13:8-10)

Gal. 5:13c-14 … but through love serve one another. 14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Rev. 2:4-5 4 But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. 5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.

- 4 ways to rekindle your love for God:

1. Repent (Psa. 51:10-12)

2. Remember (Lu. 7:36-50)

3. Request: 1 Jo. 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God (Heb. 10:24-25a).

4. Read (Psa. 119:35, 47-48).
