Description

Join us this week as we discuss another cryptid, this time all the way from Ireland, in honor of the holiday. We're joined again by guest and friend of the pod Leighton, as he, and everyone else on the team (except for Sofie) are all of Irish heritage! The great Oilliphéist were believed to inhabit many lakes and rivers in Ireland and there are many legends of saints and heroes depicted as fighting them. In one story, the Oilliphéist is actually the reasoning behind the Shannon River, as it's said the creature dug it itself when it heard that Saint Patrick had come to drive it and its kind out of Ireland. In another, after swallowing a drunken piper and losing time being sick by his song, a hero named Conan tried to defeat the beast, or perhaps it was a mermaid heroine who actually defeated the beast. Sofie hopes it was none of them and that they live in peace in secret in the depths of the waters of Ireland. (she has a great love of dragons) Since the tales of the Oilliphéist aren't enough to make a full sized episode, we thought we would read you guys your Irish listener emails as well!

We get through 4 listener emails, two of which cover haunted castles (different ones if you can believe that!) on the second listener email that Gabbi reads, it does contain a tale of sexual assault, so if you would like to skip our listener Maddie's story, please skip from 32:50-40:00
