Dark Star 1974

I love this film more than the other members of our decade under the influence crew. Why is that? For the same reasons I love buck Rogers, Blake’s 7, battlestar Galactica, and Jason of star command, I love sci-fi in general and 70’s sci fi in particular. I’m leaving out the list of sci fi films I love more because...............will get to those.

Also this film is special, we all acknowledge that. It is John Carpenters first feature film, and Dan O’Bannon’s first writing credit, and they both turn out to be giants n sci fi and horror. Giants! And it all starts here. You also have Dan playing the role of pinback and John Carpenter Apparently doing the voice of Talbot.

For me this film has everything space, space ship, explosions, great hair and creative writing. It’s too short, but some folks (ahem) may dig that. I love watching this and seeing the seeds that grow into alien and the thing, to only name a couple, O’Bannon also did effects for this and for Star Wars and alien and more, early computer effects too.

to quote bomb number twenty

during a discussion about phenomenology-

“In the beginning, there was darkness. And the darkness was without form, and void.

And in addition to the darkness there was also me. And I moved upon the face of the darkness. And I saw that I was alone.

Let there be light.
