Episode 19: It’s All About Flow. ft Trem
It’s an honour to be joined by Lyrical Commission’s own - and Unkut Recordings head-honcho - Trem for the 19th episode of Beers Beats & The Biz.
The following 3hrs is only the first part, and it’s an epic journey out the boondocks of Geelong and on to the Melbourne, Lyrical Commission dominated through the 2000’s.
In part 1, we stop just short of his long awaited debut FTTOHNL, instead focusing on Trem’s early career and up through the Lyrical Commission years.
We talk his formative years in G-Town and his involvement in introducing hip hop to the area - alongside Raise, through to an early appearance in Hype Mag - which put Geelong graffiti on the map, and the influence of DJ Frenzie and Melbourne pioneers AKA and DMA.
This episode is packed and there isn’t a lot we don’t cover from his years running with RFK through his solo career and the formation of Lyrical Commission alongside Brad Strut and The Formulators; Bob Balance and Rob Nat.
We talk songs like Lyrical Mongrels, Demolition Derby, Basic Fundamentals and Renown with Prowla. We talk producing Legend: Official for Brad, the impact of the Authentic LP, Rob Nat’s A Night on the Tiles and transitioning from 4 track recording to computers.
We talk everything from random rap and what it is to “flow” and on to production and influences, we talk Sheer Talent, Amateurs, The Stage is Set, Murderous Metaphors and a hundred other stories in lead up to For The Term..
Thank you to Trem One for his contributions and the time he gave us, this is one for the history books.
