Charlie Howard was a 23 year old, openly gay man from Portsmouth, New Hampshire. About six months before he was murdered, he moved to Bangor, Maine where he became involved in gay rights support groups. One night while walking home from an event with a friend, Charlie was stopped and chased by three teenage boys, where they threw them over a bridge to his death.
