In this episode, we discuss how we deal with a loss of confidence in our riding, and/or a fear of horses. Every horse person at one time or another in their life, will have to deal with a situation with horses that strikes a bit of fear, anxiety, or uncertainty. When this happens, we can choose to leave the horse industry altogether. But seeing as this is The Horsewoman Project, we figure most of you listeners want to work through the fear and gain back your confidence! McKayla and I discuss how we have overcome our own fears, as well as how we have taught our students to overcome their own fear or loss of confidence.
McKayla once owned a riding lesson business called Harnessing Confidence, which was based solely around the idea of helping kids and adults gain more confidence with their equine partners. She has a very amazing process of how she builds trust with her students so that she can really help them learn to be confident on and around horses.
Camri's fear around horses has been overcome again and again, as she has been kicked in the head, thrown over fences, bucked off, and more. She talks about how more knowledge and proper preparation help her stay out of a state of anxiety and fear, and more in a state of being present and focused on the horse in front of her.
