Fast Company features the detecting duo Jole and Gerda Sloan and was designed to fill in the gaps between the popular Thin Man movies. It was also to test the male lead (Melvin Douglas) to see if he could be a replacement for William Powell as Nick Charles in the Thin Man movies. since Powell had just had serious surgery and it wasn't certain that he could return to the role.
