“I’m not where I want to be— but thank god I’m not where I used to be.” Joyce Myers
“I’m trying to look at things less in black and white, to see the colour.” -Maddy Pankratz
This episode features one of our dear friends, a fellow Strength and Nutrition Coach, Maddy Pankratz AKA @thiccmadsfromthegym. In this episode we discuss all things disordered eating and exercise, Maddy’s personal journey throughout, as well as different modes of healing Maddy has found through her experience. It’s not too difficult to tell that all the harrowing experiences in her life have transformed her into an incredible coach and human being.
Topics include:
• Having an off day or week in the gym
• Maddy’s experience with disordered eating as well as exploring her childhood and behavioural patterns to move toward healing in all aspects of her life.
• Body image, body dysmorphia and social media
• Maddy’s view of addiction recovery and the world of AA.
•A discussion around discovering and identifying your Shadows
• The dangers of chronic dieting and a discussion around hypothalamic amenorrhea.
• How Maddy started getting into the gym and healing her relationship with food and nutrition
• How the gym and nutrition can become an addiction in itself
• How she goes about her training and nutrition, and the difference between a coach and a trainer
• A brief chat on periods, menstrual cycle confusion, if men got them, and the trouble with losing your period
• The many different forms of stress
• The issue with labelling foods as “healthy” or “unhealthy”
• Tracking macros, social media inventory checks and much much more…
We want to thank Mads for her bravery in sharing her story and showing up the way she does in this episode. Her honest portrayal of who she is and where she’s been is incredibly admirable. We hope you all enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed talking to her, and we think this episode will help so many through their “journeys” as well.
