In the early 1990s, Sylvia Landry, a Madam operating in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was found hanging in her jail cell soon after being convicted and sentenced on federal prostitution charges. In the late 2000s, Deborah Jeane Palfrey, a Madam operating in Washington, DC, was found hanging in a shed behind her mother’s home after being convicted on charges related to her escort business but before she was sentenced.
