Welcome to another episode of The Sporting Change Podcast

In this episode, we're tackling a topic that's been at the forefront of many conversations: the participation of trans athletes in sports.

With debates surrounding fairness and inclusion heating up, it’s essential to hear from those directly impacted—trans athletes themselves. Today, we’re honored to welcome Schuylar Bailar (he/him), a groundbreaking advocate and the first transgender athlete to compete on an NCAA Division 1 men’s team. Originally recruited to swim for Harvard’s women’s team, Schuylar made the courageous choice to transition, risking his athletic career to live authentically.

We’ll be exploring some tough questions: Do trans women have a competitive advantage over biological women? Is it true that trans women are “dominating sport”? Do we need to “save women’s sport”? How can we make sure sport is fair for everyone?

Schuylar’s story and advocacy have made waves in media from 60 Minutes to The Washington Post, and his recent book, He/She/They: How We Talk About Gender and Why It Matters, adds further depth to this critical conversation.
