Description

This message, the first in our sermon series “This Is Us,” reflects on the value of unity at the heart of the denominations with which we are affiliated (the United Church of Christ (UCC) and the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA)).

Unity is a buzzword in our society, and for good reason: we are living through a particularly chaotic and divisive time in history.

But what does real unity look like? Does our unity make room for truth-telling and difference, or does it suppress it? Whose voices are issuing the calls for unity, and whose are silenced or missing? Is unity merely the absence of tension or is it the presence of something else? That is, is unity itself the goal or is it in service to a larger goal? And what does this have to do with the UCC UUA?
