Happy New Year to those that celebrate the Gregorian calendar. 2023! And a big happy birthday to my fellow Capricorns who celebrate a birthday from the 24th to the 1st. I see you. This is coming out on Monday (I know). The future ones will be on Sunday, but I had to get my ritual on and get centered for the new year that I celebrate at my birthday, especially since it's so close to the end of the year.  So I prioritized that!

today, I am talking about the art of being serious. about contrivance. about the art of devotion and dedication. i have been thinking a lot about how i have so many hobbies, most of which are directly applicable to the things i want to do and succeed at in my life, but i've been trifling and joking around. i'm deciding to take my life and my crafts and the skills i am cultivating seriously.

as usual with any talk about language, i'm talking definitions. i'm talking gratitude for years old conversations that continue to have an impact on me. i'm talking being young and being serious (and how weirdly controversial that can be). and about why we shouldn't internalize the limitations that others have for us.

i am very happy to be alive and to be here and to be year older.

i thank you! for being here too.
