Our kids mess up. They do. Some of them, every day. How do we respond when they drop a plate in the kitchen? Fall off the monkey bars at the playground? We can't expect our kids to learn to take chances, take calculated risks, try new things if they are worried about your reaction when they fail or make a mistake.
Today's short parenting phrase to add to your toolbox is "Was it an accident?"
