Proverbs 31:10-31 is a passage praising the exemplary woman, a wife that displays wisdom in her daily living and responses with her family and community. Ruth may well have been a tangible display of this woman of virtue described in Proverbs 31. Solomon and Bathsheba, may have been distant relatives of Ruth and thus describe her in Proverbs 31 and her faithfulness to the Lord, to her husband and family. She is recognized in the community as a woman of virtue, according to Boaz (Ruth 3:11), even before she is married to Boaz. Ruth displayed the characteristics of the woman of virtue in Proverbs 31. Ruth is devoted, kind and diligent. Ruth is careful with her speech, demonstrating faith in the Lord, and she blessed her husband and family for generations after her. Matthew includes Ruth in the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew 1. True wisdom is demonstrated in reverence for God and wise women are worthy of praise.
