In Revelation 12, John gives us a fascinating look at the cosmic conflict between God and the devil, satan, that ancient serpant; and his passion to oppose God by deceiving and fighting against the people of God. This entire passage is an interesting allegory of metaphor for this cosmic conflict. Three characters are introduced at the beginning of the passage; the woman, the Child and the dragon. The identity of these three characters help shape our interpretation of the metaphor as a whole. The story climaxes in the dragon being thrown out of heaven permanently and heaven celebrating the triumph of God and the Lamb - a triumph accomplished by the blood of the Lamb. As a believer, you can rejoice because you have conquered by the blood of the Lamb - the accuser is defeated.
The Revelation of Jesus Christ is written to further our understanding about Jesus. It demonstrates throughout his majesty, power and authority over the events and affairs of mankind. The Revelation of Jesus Christ demonstrates that ultimately – Jesus wins and because he does, we can and must trust him. No matter what comes into our lives, we can and must confidently and faithful rest in the ability of our God and Savior to work in our lives and in the world he has created. Jesus is worthy and “to him be glory and power forever and ever.” As John concludes, he quotes Jesus, “I am coming soon.” John responds, as every believer can and should – Come, Lord Jesus!
