Description

Romans 6:1-4 As Paul turns from the glories of justification, he focuses in on the reality that sin should no longer reign, be in charge, in our lives. Through his death, Jesus rescues and delivers us from the dominion of sin over us. Therefore, we no longer have to serve sin. As Paul explains this truth, he uses baptism as a tangible picture of dying to sin and being raised to newness of life. As a new creation, it is incumbent upon every believer to truly be transformed into the image of Jesus. This never means that we will no longer sin, it also never means that we will be perfect in this life, but it is a call to be increasingly transformed into the image of Jesus. God can powerfully transform us to be more and more like Jesus, this is and must be our daily focus and goal as followers of Jesus.

Throughout Romans, Paul offers a defense of what he believes and teachers about the gospel for these believers in Rome he has not yet met. Some of these believers may have been questioning him, his message, and how it relates to Judaism. Paul writes to explain at length the connection of Jesus, the gospel and to defend it, in spite of the rejection of Jesus as the Jewish Messiah by many Jews.
