As the message of Revelation comes to a close, John concludes these visions and prophecies with a final vision of heaven - the New Jerusalem. He addresses the glories of dwelling with God and the Lamb forever in this magnificent, grand place - the New Jerusalem. This city is 1400 miles square and 1400 miles high! Its beauty is unparalleled, we have never seen anything like it and cannot fathom it, even in our wildest imagination. This vision of the New Jerusalem, of dwelling with God and the Lamb forever, is given to encourage and motivate us in our daily lives. With the glories of heaven awaiting, you must be motivated to live with heaven in view. As CS Lewis concludes his final book of Narnia, in the final words he states, Now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the great Story which no one on earth has read; which goes on for ever; in which every chapter is better than the one before. May we long for heaven so much that changes the way we live on earth. This is the closing message of Revelation.
The Revelation of Jesus Christ is written to further our understanding about Jesus. It demonstrates throughout his majesty, power and authority over the events and affairs of mankind. The Revelation of Jesus Christ demonstrates that ultimately – Jesus wins and because he does, we can and must trust him. No matter what comes into our lives, we can and must confidently and faithful rest in the ability of our God and Savior to work in our lives and in the world he has created. Jesus is worthy and “to him be glory and power forever and ever.” As John concludes, he quotes Jesus, “I am coming soon.” John responds, as every believer can and should – Come, Lord Jesus!
