In Revelation 8-9, John conveys the coming Trumpets judgments. These judgments collectively focus on 1/3 of the earth being destroyed, including land, oceans, fresh water and the light. In Ch. 9, we learn 1/3 of the earth's population will be killed during the 6th Trumpet Judgment. As jarring as these prophecies are, the message is in part the contrast between believers and unbelievers. Believers in 8:3-4, are praying to God. God hears the prayers of his people. At the end of Ch. 9:20-21, unbelievers despite the incredible signs from God, refuse to believe, they continue in their unbelief and rejection of God. As believers, we must remember that we can call out to God in prayer, because he cares, he hears and he will act on our behalf.
The Revelation of Jesus Christ is written to further our understanding about Jesus. It demonstrates throughout his majesty, power and authority over the events and affairs of mankind. The Revelation of Jesus Christ demonstrates that ultimately – Jesus wins and because he does, we can and must trust him. No matter what comes into our lives, we can and must confidently and faithful rest in the ability of our God and Savior to work in our lives and in the world he has created. Jesus is worthy and “to him be glory and power forever and ever.” As John concludes, he quotes Jesus, “I am coming soon.” John responds, as every believer can and should – Come, Lord Jesus!
