Description

In his closing remarks to the church at Philippi, Paul commends the Philippians for their faithful giving to him throughout his ministry. He commends giving generously, for the glory of God. Giving is a regular part of our worship. Giving exalts God, praising him for all he has given to us. The riches that we enjoy through Jesus should cause us to joyfully give back to God. As Paul says goodbye, he greets the Philippians and sends greetings from the believers in Rome, especially those of the house of Caesar. As is his habit, Paul concludes with by commending the grace of God to these believers. We need God's grace to give generously with a genuine heart of gratitude, because this kind of giving honors the Lord.

Philippians is a wonderful letter of hopeful encouragement for believers who are struggling with their concern about Paul and his current circumstances, struggling with their thinking about several different issues including: assurance, perseverance, the gospel and mission, partnership, fellowship and unity, and joy. Paul offers specific theological foundations for right thinking about engaging one another in the church. This foundation begins with a right understanding of Jesus, who he is and what he came to accomplish. It is also built on a right approach to the gospel and gospel ministry. This church needs to understand the importance of working together for the advance of the gospel in the church and in their community.
