Description

When you think of heaven, what comes to mind? What is your impression of heaven? Here, John describes to us the beginning of the eternal state. He begins with the new heaven and new earth and moves to the New Jerusalem. The holy city, the New Jerusalem is coming down out of heaven. This is the where God and the Lamb dwell, this is the place where the throne of God is located. The only description of heaven in Revelation 21-22, is a description of this holy city, the New Jerusalem. The emphasis of this entire section is on living, dwelling with God. The blessing of this passage is the long awaited ability of humanity to dwell with God, permanently. Those who know Jesus personally as Savior will dwell with God forever here in the New Jerusalem. Dwelling with God is the reward, to be with him, to be near him for the rest of eternity fulfills the long awaited desire of mankind. We cannot dwell with him because of sin, but now, through the sacrifice of the Lamb, it is possible - we can dwell with him. Do you long to be with Jesus? Do you long to dwell with him?

The Revelation of Jesus Christ is written to further our understanding about Jesus. It demonstrates throughout his majesty, power and authority over the events and affairs of mankind. The Revelation of Jesus Christ demonstrates that ultimately – Jesus wins and because he does, we can and must trust him. No matter what comes into our lives, we can and must confidently and faithful rest in the ability of our God and Savior to work in our lives and in the world he has created. Jesus is worthy and “to him be glory and power forever and ever.” As John concludes, he quotes Jesus, “I am coming soon.” John responds, as every believer can and should – Come, Lord Jesus!
