Description

As Luke relays the details of the birth account of Jesus, he introduces us to significant characters in the story. The shepherds, the angels, Simeon, Anna, Elizabeth, Zechariah and John the Baptist are all introduced in this incredible account. The human story of these very real people, who were initially introduced to the newborn baby Jesus, calls each of us to contemplate the meaning of his coming as they did. In Luke 2:19, Luke records the response of Mary to the events of the night that Jesus was born. Shepherds came and told of receiving heavenly messengers that told of the birth of this baby. After hearing their testimony, Mary ponders - she meditates on what they said. Mary was very likely considering the significance of his coming for her and for her people. She likely was trying to understand what it all meant and how it would impact her life. This Christmas, join Mary, ponder on the significance and meaning of the coming of Jesus. He came for you, he came to deliver you from your sin. Do you know him? Have you turned in faith to him?

Advent is a wonderful time each year to consider both the first Advent of Jesus, his birth in Bethlehem, but also, his second Advent - Jesus is coming again and he is coming for his own. This Advent season, consider with us all that we possess because of Jesus and his coming, his life, his death and resurrection. The first Advent of Jesus makes a relationship with God possible; it alone makes eternal life possible.
