Mark offers his account of the rich young ruler here in his gospel. This account is given in all three of the Synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke). This young man was seeking, he comes to Jesus seeking to know how he can have eternal life. He acknowledges who Jesus is, calling him good, a description that Jesus himself describes as characteristic of God alone. Jesus addresses the misconception of this young ruler, by confronting his thinking that eternal life can be earned. As Jesus demonstrates throughout, his point is simply salvation is by grace alone, through faith. Are you trusting by faith, in Jesus alone, to rescue you from your sin and give you eternal life?
