Description

Pulmonary Embolism (PE)  One or more arteries in the lungs is blocked by a blood clot. Most of the time a pulmonary embolism is caused by blood clots that moved from the leg into the arteries of the lungs.  DVT deep vein thrombosis is a blood clot in the deep vein of your leg.

Symptoms of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

Pain in the affected leg, swelling, warmth , redness or discoloration to the leg.

Causes of DVT : anything that disrupts circulation, certain medications or decreased movement.

Risk Factors: genetics,  bedrest, injury or surgery, smoking, obesity, pregnancy, cancer, heart disease, 

Treatment of DVT : Blood thinners

Signs of pulmonary embolism (PE)

chest pain, shortness of breath, rapid heart rate

Previous Surgery,  Cancer, Heart diseases, lung diseases, Trauma , Broken Hip or leg bone, Birth Control, Hormone replacement therapy, Pregnancy and childbirth,  Sedentary life style, Age increase risk over 40 years old, Family history, genetic

Treatment

Anticoagulants - blood thinners

Thrombolytics medicines that dissolve the clot

Catheter- Assisted  thrombus removal  or A vena cava filter used in some people who cannot take blood thinners
