AIN'T GOT TIME FOR THAT!!

Seems like we are all too busy. To busy to work more? To busy to play more? To busy to learn more, be more, do more?

Ironically, we always seem to find time for the unproductive or counterproductive things in life. We can watch a sporting event for 3-4 hours. We can stare into space (watch television) or play video games for extended periods as well. But when it comes to “bettering ourselves” suddenly time slips away mysteriously and we cannot determine where it went. Baffling really.

Here is what I find true in my own failed disciplines. Time cannot be managed. How we use it must be managed. The key words for managing how we allocate time are PRIORITIES AND VALUES.

The truth is, we all MAKE time for what really matters to us. As Zig Ziglar noted in “Over The Top” we seem to get more work, chores and errands done the day before vacation than at any other time in our lives.” That is because vacation is a priority and we want to enjoy it to the fullest without the stress of things left undone. We value the time we will spend on vacation with friends and family as we hope to unwind so we pull out all the stops to insure it is not interfered with.

If you are a leader, and you have experienced this phenomenon you will notice how powerful it is as a motivator. You will also notice highly successful and influential leaders live as if EVERYDAY is the day before vacation.

Sure, we all get rushed and pressed and stressed. We all find interruption upon interruption and then even those get interrupted. We also experience delays, details and decisions which alter the course to success.

I challenge you to make it a point of determining your priorities and values so you can wisely manage how you use your time. You will never get it back.
