Do you do too much for others?
Perhaps the better question is: HOW do you do too much for others? Is it possible to do more for others than you should?
I know employees and employers are constantly asking this question without using the same words.
Employees may sound more like:
The employer may sound more like:
The challenge for both sides is the idea of "getting what they deserve." Both parties come expecting a little more from the other. How often have you felt like you've done more than you were paid for? How often have you paid for a service or product and felt like you paid way too much for it or got less than you paid for?
We all face the same thing. Let me drop a secret of success on you. WHEN you give more than you are asked for or paid for, your current boss or client may NEVER MENTION IT! They may offer no raise, no promotion and no opportunity. Trust me, I have been there. HOWEVER, never assume that means NO ONE notices. Someone did, someone will and the result will be greater opportunity in the future.
Truly, the greatest benefit for you as a leader who does more than they are expected is the benefit of the person you will become along the way. A better person, a better leader, a greater success, is the one who seeks to do more than is expected of them.
