Leadership is IMPOSSIBLE without authentic, accurate and clear communication. What happens when others work hard to muddy your communication and intent?
From politics and media to parents and kids, from teachers and students to friends and family, there are thousands of voices clambering to be heard. Each voice is constantly shouting louder into the fray stirring up confusion over clarity.
Many of these voices are well intentioned but lost in the crowd become nothing more than background noise.
Some of these voices are misguided but firmly convinced they are serving a greater good.
Some of these voices labor feverishly with malice of forethought to create further confusion, contention and to complicate issues.
Mass media, social media and “peer media” all compete for attention and action. Everyday there is a new “tactic to gain customers or followers” and most of them require a new strategic use of social media platforms. Persuasive skills, communication tools and linguistic manipulation have become the norm in business, politics and education.
Leaders must learn and master the power of consistent, accurate communication. Repetition, repetition and more repetition will be necessary to combat the voluminous amounts of misinformation and useless information.
Leaders will only win this war with a persistent preponderance of truth.
