Parenting styles are the strategies parents use to raise their children. Psychologist Diana Baumrind identified four main styles based on responsiveness (warmth) and demandingness (control).
- Authoritarian: High control, low warmth. Strict rules, punishments. Can lead to obedient but low self-esteem children.
- Authoritative: High control, high warmth. Clear rules, supportive. Leads to self-disciplined, confident children.
- Permissive: Low control, high warmth. Few rules, indulgent. Children may struggle with self-control.
- Uninvolved: Low control, low warmth. Neglectful, indifferent. Children may have low self-esteem and behavioral issues.
