Does the food we eat impact our relationship with God? That’s a question that believers in God have asked over and over again. Do we need to fast (not eat for periods of time)? In the Old Testament, God gave his people a powerful answer: “This is what the Lord Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other’” (Zechariah 7:9-10). God wants his people to focus on mercy and compassion toward other people, not on fasting. Isn’t that what Jesus himself did when he came to save us? I hope you can read or watch this sermon: “Mercy over Fasting.” God bless you!
