It can be exhausting to carry the burden of difficult stories by ourselves. We often encounter criticisms, judgments, and guilt when talking about taboos, especially if we have experienced trauma. Unfortunately, these experiences lead to depression, anxiety and other mental health issues. To start healing, we need compassionate dialogue and supportive space to express our struggles. We need to switch the conversation from "what is wrong with you" to "what happened to you". Ultimately, having open conversations about taboo topics will make us feel less alone and foster meaningful helpful connection.
