Surrender...

What an interesting word. Is it positive? Is it negative? When is surrendering good for us and when is it not?

If Bono's new, best-selling book, his "one story", is about surrender, what does that mean? Here's how he describes it:

"'Surrender' is a word I haven't yet fully grasped or fathomed, if I'm honest. I was born with my fists up, metaphorically -- sometimes physically! -- and putting them down is hard for me. And I'm trying to. So the title is where I'm headed, rather than where I'm at."

How many of us can relate to that? Think of the difference between trying to control every part of your life; fists tight, shoulders tense, or letting go and surrendering it all... Have you been living with your fists up? Have you been trying to control everything in an anxious, frustrating pursuit?

This Sunday, we kick off a four-part series on the life of Joseph, from Genesis 37-45, and discover how Joseph surrenders to God's plans, His care and wisdom. We'll see how Joseph finds freedom in the journey, embracing what God had destined for him all along, and how you and I can do the same!
