A special Husky Talk with UConn Huskies Basketball Legend Kevin Freeman. Kevin played professionally overseas for 11 years before transitioning into coaching. He came back to UConn on Jim Calhoun's staff in the 2011-2012 season coaching and as the Assistant Director of Basketball Administration.

Kevin stayed on after Calhoun retired and new head coach Kevin Ollie took over and became the Director of Basketball Administration. Freeman was an instrumental part of the Huskies winning the national championship in 2014.

Coach Dan Hurley brought Kevin back in 2020 after he spent a few years on the staff at Penn State. Currently, he is an Associate Director of Athletics, along with being the Executive Director of The National C Club. The Club promotes UConn Alumni engagement with our current student athletes and graduates. Anyone who lettered in a sport is eligible to join the C Club and please go to their website at https://uconnhuskies.com/sports/2024/6/20/national-c-club.aspxto sign up.

Kevin stressed the importance of utilizing our alumni to help our student athletes with job opportunities and career advice. Join the C CLUB today, Kevin has been outstanding and is growing the group. I signed up after talking with Kevin and am excited to contribute. Kevin played early on Springfield, and then moved to New Jersey where he played on one of the best AAU teams in the country, Tim Thomas was one of his teammates.

He visited UConn and committed to Coach Calhoun. His freshman class in 1996 that had a tremendous amount of talent. Coach Calhoun developed Kevin's group, they built more toughness, mentally and physically. Kevin said losing to North Carolina in the 1998 NCAA tournament was devastating. But Coach Calhoun came in the locker room and proclaimed that next year they would go to the Final 4. Having a truly magical season, the 1998-1999 team lived up to expectations, and Kevin was a force, along with having strong leadership, which led UConn to their first Men's Basketball NCAA Championship.

Kevin went on to a successful career playing overseas and then as a coach. We are thrilled to have him back home at UConn now.
