October is A Mental Health Awareness Month.
As A Mindset Development Coach, Jabu Zwane, this topic is extremely important to me and very close to my heart. Personally I have suffered from periodic suicidal thoughts at some point in my life, although I dont believe they were serious to extent that I would done anything about them.
My father suffers from what I suspect is A Bioploar disorder for as long as I can remember. Never had any significant relationship with him as a result.
I have counselled more than a handful people who suffered from suicidal thoughts and at least two cases where they went as far as taking steps to kill themsleves, resulting in speeding almost the whole night at hospitals as doctors administered remedies to help these two individuals.
Here are some very concerning stats to note about Mental Health in the world and South Africa.
• An estimated 400 million people worldwide suffer from mental or neurological disorders or from psychosocial problems. These include disorders related to alcohol and drug abuse. Like physical disorders mental and brain disorders vary in severity. There are those that are:
• Men are 4 times more likely to commit suicide than women. Although this is the case, women account for more than 80% of calls to Suicide Help centres.
