Chosen
“He chose David his servant and took him from the sheep pens; from tending the sheep he brought him to be the shepherd of his people Jacob, of Israel his inheritance. And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them.”
Psalms 78:70-72 NIV
1.) God Chose You
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
Jeremiah 1:5 NIV
“Even then God had his eye on me. Why, when I was still in my mother’s womb he chose and called me out of sheer generosity! Now he has intervened and revealed his Son to me so that I might joyfully tell non-Jews about him”
Galatians 1:15 MSG
“He chose David his servant and took him from the sheep pen”
David was confessing “God chose me.”
Jeremiah is saying “God chose me.”
Paul is saying “God chose me.”
Your confession should be that God chose you, God loves you, God is for you, and God is with you!
“But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.”
1 Peter 2:9 NLT
“He chose David His Servant.”
God is in the business of doing great things for those who serve him.
God always chooses servants to be used greatly by Him.
God doesn’t need more heroes, He is the hero. He is looking for people who will humble themselves and serve Him.
If you want to be used greatly in God’s kingdom, you must serve greatly in His kingdom.
2.) God can take you from where you are to where He wants you to be!
“He chose David his servant and took him from the sheep pens; from tending the sheep he brought him to be the shepherd of his people Jacob, of Israel his inheritance.”
“Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.”
Ecclesiastes 3:11 NLT
God took David from obscurity to prominence but David stayed diligent wherever God placed Him.
There was a process from when He got the Word, to when He walked in that Word.
The grass is never greener on the other side, the grass is greener where you water it!
“While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God. Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered. In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him.”
Hebrews 5:7-9 NLT
The true test of success is when promotion doesn’t change you!
David was able to Shepard millions of people because he was a Shepard to so many sheep.
If the light that shines on you is brighter than the light that shines in you, the light that shines on you will destroy you.
3.) Private devotion brings public promotion.
And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them.”
“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”
Matthew 6:6 NKJV
“Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men.”
Proverbs 22:29 NKJV
Your talent can get you somewhere, but your character will keep you there.
