This SEASON 2 of the podcast series, RICHARD DEL CONNOR PHILOSOPHER POET, is Richard explaining the stories behind the songs he was writing and performing while attending UCLA and working as a cinematographer making music videos, movie special EFX, and shooting concerts in Los Angeles arenas and night clubs for local magazines and newspapers as a member of the Newspaper Guild #69.
Richard’s Baptism Godfather is immortalized by using the name “Don DelaVega” as the recording engineer on all his albums. As record producer, he uses his legal name, Richard Del Connor. This OBOY album being released in 2025 is the first album to bear his legal name. Since he didn’t BECOME the Kung Fu Cowboy until 1980 when he began his Northern Shaolin training under Sifu Wong Jack Man who famously fought Bruce Lee in 1964, Richard has decided to continue using the name Kung Fu Cowboy for at least one album per year, and will also release another album per year under his name, Richard Del Connor. He says he hopes to sell many of his unrecorded and unreleased songs through his ASCAP music publishing company, SHAOLIN MUSIC, that was—you guessed it: founded in 1984 with the release of his debut album as RICHARD O’CONNOR & THE RICH.
So this album, Oboy, contains 11 LIVE CONCERT recordings of Richard performing with his band THE RICH during his UCLA student days. He wants to give credit and immortalize the achievements of some other musician bandmates who deserve some appreciation for their hard work and wonderful talents they shared with only the Los Angeles area during the 1980s. Some of these musicians went on to lucrative careers in The Eagles, Chicago Transit Authority, and as studio session musicians. One of his guitarists even created the guitar instruction books you may have studied to learn how to play guitar…
