Eboni Johnson, like all of us, has a story. It's one that, recently, she has decided to share. And like many of us, her story is not always an easy one to hear.
Eboni aka Jenelle The Poet grew up in the Morgan Park area of Chicago, Illinois. She discovered her passion for writing in preschool. From there she grew to express herself through poetry.
At age 18 (and on her final day of high school) Eboni endured a tragic event. Her mother died suddenly and devastatingly from a heart attack. Stricken with grief, she also found herself being physically and sexualy abused by various family members. While struggling to pull herself together, Eboni vowed to publish her written works to heal herself and help heal others.
Her need to heal her inner child led her to working with children. She also began planning and detailing her work towards a collection for publication.
After high school, she enrolled in and attended Columbia College Chicago and received her BA Bachelors degree in Journalism. When she’s not working with children, she is performing her works at open mics to well-received performances.
Her goal: to provide encouragement and a safe space for others to unpack and heal. To inspire others to express themselves toward becoming their best selves.
"Never lose yourself in someone else. And if you do get lost, God will find you"
Her book, " From A Cocoon To A Butterfly”, is due to be released in January of 2022.
